You really need to get rid of those ads on the site- now they are going after palin??
Chad
Georgetown, Ohio
Thanks for alerting me to the ad, Chad. In an attempt to remain nonpartisan, as Dolly herself always does, I try to avoid any negative political statements on the site. The ads that appear are part of a subscription service. The ads are purchased by advertisers and added to rotation in various groups without advance review of the sites on which they appear, but you may remove them after-the-fact. Whenever I have been alerted to an ad that a reader has found objectionable (which has happened twice in the past), I have gone into the ad syndicate's program, attempted to locate the group of ads in which the questionable one appears, and blocked that group from the site. When alerted to this one, I did just that and blocked the group which appeared to contain this advertisement.

Hi Duane! I was looking around your site and found a link to Dolly's Imagination Library. I would love to sign my daughter up for this wonderful program, but it is not sponsored in our community. Do you have any suggestions on how to bring these much needed books to our children?
Joy Allen
Canton, Miss.
There has to be a nonprofit organization willing to head up the project in the community, so the first step is to get a nonprofit to take it on. You may direct local charities who are interested in such projects to the program's website for more information to try and convince them to do it.

Hi Duane, I love your site as I'm a lifetime Dolly fan.  I had planned to see Dolly at the benefit show in Richmond but now unable to go.  I had purchased one of the Rocking Chair seats - and have now posted it for bid on ebay in case any of your readers may be interested.  item#  250302955646

Duane! I'll bet you anything that "Blue Smoke" will be on the benefit CD!  I have been desperately wanting that song since I heard it live a few years ago.  I hope I'm right! :)

I hope you are, too, Bill. I loved that song! We'll just have to wait and see.

Several of you wrote in with good wishes Wednesday on the site's 12th anniversary of its creation and 10th anniversary of using the name "Dollymania." Thank you all for the kind words you shared. A sampling is available below.

Happy Anniversary Duane! You provide a great service for all of us Dolly-fanatics. Every morning, after reading my horoscope, I hit Dollymania to check out what Dolly's been up to. That's right. Before reading the news headlines, checking the stock market, or answering email, I have to get my Dolly fix at Dollymania. Keep up the great work!

Congratulations on 12 years, Duane.  Your site is the definitive Dolly  Parton news site in my opinion. I used to check out several and yours has always been the best.  Thanks for keeping all of us informed of Dolly's activities. It is truly appreciated.

Hello Duane, I am interested to know how many CDs of Backwoods Barbie have sold as this is Dolly's first on her own label, and how do you think this compares with sales of her other recent C D 's. Is there a total for ticket sales of the tour thus far? I saw the show this spring and will get to see it again this fall. It really is a great show. Thanks for a fantastic and reliable web site.
Scott
Pennsylvania
Thanks, Scott. Unfortunately, both pieces of information have not been publicly released, but I can put forth an educated guess. When the CD had been out for six weeks, it had sold 77,000 copies in the U.S., and that's the most recent figure to be publicly available. (SoundScan tracks sales, but subscribing to its data service is very expensive and they don't allow fan-operated websites to subscribe anyway, so I don't have access to that information to give you a current figure.) Given its chart performance in the weeks since April, it is probably in the 115,000-125,000 unit range right now, which is on par with the album sales she's had at this point in its release for most of her projects over the past 10 years or so. Not better than most of her recent CDs, but not much worse. Unless she has a hit off of it, it will likely top out in another year or so at the 200,000 mark that most of her Sugar Hill recordings finished near a year or two after they came out. On the tour, we know the first U.S. leg grossed $3.0 million because that figure was released earlier in the summer, but the total for the second U.S. leg this fall hasn't been released (the second and third North American portions of the tour should be available in total come January when the top concert tours for the second half of the year are announced). A total on the European leg also hasn't been publicly released to my knowledge, but it was heralded as her most successful to date with a 21 percent increase in ticketholders than last year's European tour, which grossed $16 million and had been her most successful there to that point. I think ticket prices for this year's were just slightly higher, so that combined with the larger audiences resulted in it probably grossing in the neighborhood of $20-$25 million.

Hello! Its that time of year where I start begging for pictures again lol. I realize its only September, but I am a real planner, I have to have things done early.... SO I am working on a present for Miss Dolly's Christmas/birthday present. I need ANY pictures anybody has of Dolly and her family. If anyone has video footage of Dolly too that they can email me, that would be awesome too. I WILL credit you all for this, because I think anybody who sends me video footage of Dolly, or photos of her and her family deserves to have Dolly know that you provided me with this stuff.  Until the end of November, you can email me pictures or video of Miss Dolly to dollysnumber1fan@hotmail.com. Please be sure to title the email "Dolly Parton" so that it goes into the proper folder that I have designated for this. Thank you all.

Hi Duane. Just a note to let you know that I had the opportunity to meet Dolly in Berkeley. I wasn't exactly picked as a winner at first, but turns out one other Dolly-ite member who won was not able to attend the meet and greet. I was quite delighted and very surprised to get the email announcing that I was chosen to meet Dolly. (Although it was quite a sacrifice to make, I would personally like to say thanks to that Dolly-ite member for the opportunity.) After being a loyal fan for 26 years, even beginning to wonder if I'd ever have the chance - my wish came true!! I still can't believe I actually met Dolly. LOL. As always, she was just too sweet for words. I even had trouble figuring out how to take pictures with my friend's digital camera, which he didn't know either, but that a whole other story.. One of Dolly's crew came to the rescue, while Dolly asked me to wait to the side and that I could return after the problem was solved. The man figured it out and he took a picture of Dolly and me. I am absolutely on Cloud 9!! And YES - the concert was awesome! It was Michael's first time to see Dolly and being into the gothic scene that he is, of all concerts he's been to, he told me that Dolly was by far the best! How about that for a rave review?! I will email you the photo soon.. I also plan to upload it to my myspace page. Many thanks and big hugs to Dolly for that very special moment and for a fabulous show, forever etched in my memory!!

Thanks for sharing your story, Scott. Congratulations on meeting Dolly! Can't wait to see the photos!

Hey, Duane. I thought I would send this your way. It's a video called "Ask Stella" and the reason I am bringing it to your attention, is because she answers a question about herself and Miss Dolly... and she talks a little about the Smokies in another question. Now, the Dolly question is the very last one, but the entire thing is worth watching. My favorite part of this whole thing is when she's shaking her finger at me haha. And I guess I need to set my sites on a different closet. I shall go after Dolly's shoes next! Anyway, heres the link to the video http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=38309883. Just thought you might be interested in seeing it :)

I was just wondering what you thought dolly would be doing for the next few weeks until her tour kicks back up. Hopefully she'll be resting, but do you know of anything else she has up her sleeve?
Jeremy
Maryville, Tenn.
While I haven't heard anything certain, Jeremy, rumor has it she's in New York working with 9 To 5:The Musical during its summer rehearsals prior to its opening in LA in September.

I saw a Target commercial last night and the theme music was a song about more where that came from.  I'm about 99% sure that it was Dolly singing the track.  Any info???  The song was really catchy!
Craig Haynie
Houston, Texas
Yes, the song was a single of hers back in 1993 which appeared on her CD Slow Dancing With The Moon. The store has been using the recording off an on for a few years in its in-store ads, but this was the first time that it's been part of their television campaign.

Re: Backwoods Barbie Tour:  I was at the concert in Stockholm last night (GREAT SHOW for those of you with tickets for any of the other concerts this year!), and there were a lot of t-shirts on sale.  Didn't see much else ......except for pink Stetsons with silver sequin trim!  Mine's now sitting on my desk beside me as I type, a wonderful reminder of a great show!  Dolly was hinting at a return concert here next year ....fingers crossed!

Hello Duane, I was wondering if you have heard anything more about Dolly adding any more US dates after she returns to the US. When she performed here in Little Rock,AR for her Vintage Tour, the audience was absolutely amazing. Dolly even went as far to say that we treated her better then back in Tennessee! Have you heard anything about her possibly returning here? Thank you so much!! Tyler M. (Lonely Dolly Fan in Arkansas. Where are the rest of the Arkansas fans?!)
Tyler McInturff
Benton, Ark.
Well, I know you're not alone, Tyler. Several other Arkansas fans e-mail me off and on all the time! As for the tour, she is expected to add several more dates to the fall leg in the U.S., but no indications have been made of which cities she may visit, so we don't know if she'll return to Arkansas or not yet. We'll just have to wait and see!

Is Dolly going to be at Dollywood this weekend for kidsfest? (june 13th and 14th)  I have been told yes and no, but I'm sure you have the right answer.  If you could answer before this weekend it would be greatly appreciated. Love this web site. Thanks,
Lori

No, Lori, she will not be there. KidsFest starts on the same day as her European tour, so she will be on another continent this weekend.

Hi! Just a quick question here. I would like to know how to purchase tickets to see Dolly at Dollywood. Will they be available on ticketmaster? Thanks.
Debbie Crochet
Kinder, La.
Debbie, the way they intend to sell tickets has not been announced yet for that show. However, I can tell you that in the past they were available via mail to Dollywood seasonpassholders first, then available via telephone by calling Dollywood when they went on sale to the general public. As soon as information on the ticket sales format is available for that show, it will be reported on the Dollymania news page, so be sure to check back frequently.

Does anyone know if Mrs. D does meet and greets with her fans at her concerts? Or a tip to meet this amazing woman? Thanks.
Lisette
Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland, The Netherlands
Yes, Dolly has always done a meet-and-greet before nearly every concert when she is on tour. However, most people who get backstage to meet her have to be invited by an "insider" who is close to her or someone at her record label -- ordinary fans have found it nearly impossible to secure that invitation. That is until this year. She contracted with an outside company to create an official music website, DollyPartonMusic.net, and through that website, the company created an official online fan club (although they have since changed to calling it an "online community" instead of "fan club") which offers its members a chance to win backstage passes to meet Dolly. Each concert features a specific date a few weeks in advance on which members may register for the chance to meet her at the concert. Two fans are randomly selected from all entries to be taken backstage to have their photo taken with her. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to bring anything for her to autograph. So if you join the club, you can enter the contest. The periods to enter for Swedish and Danish shows are closed, but contest entries are taken on Monday for the show in Norway and on Tuesday for the show in Holland, which I assume is the one you're attending!

Dude- can't you change the art work on occasion? I get tired of the same old pics every time I log on. Peace out.
Danny
Edgerton, Wis.
Well, Danny, the artwork at the top of the page is what is known in media design as a “masthead” or “banner” and is placed at the top of a newspaper or magazine's front page or the top of a website to serve as its identifying logo. Typically, these are used for many years with few if any changes because they become so closely identified with the publication. I change up the masthead on this site only once every three or four years (the site is 10 years old, and I think that masthead went up about two and a half years ago). The other photo on the front page is switched out about once every year or two when I have taken what I feel is a real stunning image of Dolly at an event. This one from her most recent Opry appearance went up a year ago, and I haven't taken one that really “spoke” to me more than that one since then. When I do take another one that I feel merits that spot, it will be posted there in place of this one.

Hi Duane. I was at Dollywood last weekend. I couldn't find any of the new merchandise you spoke of in a previous post. Was it in a certain store? The store I looked in was the one at the exit. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
Scott Roberts
Nashville, Tenn.
Unfortunately, those items were only sold at the park for a few hours immediately before her Porter Wagoner tribute appearance and for an hour or so immediately afterward. They were pieces of the tour merchandise sold at the concerts, not items that are normally sold at Dollywood.

Hey Duane! Do you know if Dolly plans to still extend her tour to Canada? Also, thank you so much for your loyalty to this site...I have visited it practically every day now for about 7 years and it is always updated!!
Michelle
Ottawa, Ont., Canada
Thanks, Michelle :) Nothing official yet, but she did say before the tour began that it would include Canada, and I've not heard any changes to that intent. I expect when a more complete listing of the fall and winter 2008 tour dates is available, it will most likely include several Canadian engagements.

Hi Duane, I just wanna thank you for a really great website with everything there is to read about Dolly and a little more. All the facts, pictures, interviews, Q&A:s, daily news, it's all great. Thank you for Dollymania.net and also, speaking of Dolly, let's wish her a happy wedding day today.

Thanks so much, Stina. Your kind words are very heartwarming. And best wishes to Dolly and Carl, who celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on Friday!

Hey Duane. My comment today doesnt have anything really to do with Dolly. But I wanted to ask if you would put this up for me. Stella's friend Dianne Odell died recently. She lived in an iron lung, and died when the power went out and the generator would not come back on. Anyway, this is the second friend Miss Stella has lost in a month, the first being Miss Dottie Rambo. A friend of mine and I had an idea though. We want to make Stella a giant card sending our condolences her way. All anyone has to do, is send their personal messages or pictures to stellapartonfan01@hotmail.com and a huge card will be put together for Miss Stella and sent to her. I think she would really like this, and it might make her feel a little better :) We want this to be very special... and if you'll help us, it can be :)
Michelle
Benton, Ark.
Glad to pass it along, Michelle.

Hi. I need the pictures that are in Willadeene's books. I'm working on something for Dolly and Stella, so I need all photos from there. I don't care who's in the photos, I just want them. I'm not looking to pay for them, I just want someone to scan them and email them to me if that's possible. I plan on buying the book soon, but for now I just want the pictures, and I don't have a scanner that works.
Thanks everyone
P.S. Saw Scott's letter below... I have alot of family photos, especially pictures of Miss Dolly's parents. Also, I wanted to inform him that Stella's got a nice song about their parents called Up In The Holler and he oughta check that out if he gets the chance. :)
Michelle
Benton, Ark.
Thanks, Michelle. Glad to pass along your request and your words for Scott.

Hi Duane, I was just thinking today about all of us Dolly fans contributing to a tribute video to Dolly's Mama and Daddy, to show our love and appreciation for them. Collecting as many photos of them as possible and adding certain Dolly songs as Coat of Many Colors, Smokey Mountain Memories, etc - those special songs that Dolly wrote or dedicated to her parents. How's that for an idea? We want to keep Mama and Daddy's memories alive, and perhaps this is one way we can do that, for Dolly as well as the entire family. I think that would be sweet. I'd do it myself, but I'm not sure how to go about it.
Scott Nassans
San Francisco, Calif.
How sweet. I'd suggest posting a request on the DollyPartonMusic.net messageboard seeking people to send you photos, or maybe on the letters page here asking for it, and then if you know how to create one of those videos using a video editing program, you could post it on YouTube or somewhere like that and maybe send Dolly a DVD of it as well.

May 21, 2008
Hey- Keep doing the good work! Can you tell me the title of the album & artist Dolly did a cover of “I will always love you”; kinda of a R&B version? I think the guy was some sort of sax player. All the best:)
Bobby
Dacula , Ga.
The performer was Jerry D, and the song was on his Sax In The Country CD back in 2005. There are a few copies on Amazon.com. The individual track is available for downloading from his website here, and it also appears on his new CD, Deseo, which is available for free from the website (just pay for shipping -- the coupon code is available here).

Dear Duane, I have not heard anything about any merchandise sold on the 2008 tour. Do you know what Dolly items there are to buy? 2008 tour book? T-shirts? etc? Thanks for letting me know!
John
Beverly Hills, Calif.
When she was at Dollywood, they had most of the new material for sale. There is a great white shirt with nine different Warhol-style colored versions of one of her recent publicity photos (it's the head shot portion of the one in the green dress that came out to publicize the tribute CD five years ago), but I think it was the only one with her image that they had at the time. There was a cool black one with her name and a decorated guitar, one that has an intricate design and the Dolly logo and one that has the mudflap outline from the CD cover. There was also a jacket and a babydoll tee or two. They also have autographed photos from the CD, keychains of the album cover, new Dolly trucker caps, and a few other things like that, if memory serves correct. The new tour book wasn't ready yet, but it's out now. What I was told at the time was it was going to be pretty much the same interior as the last two versions with a few new photos and a new cover. When I made a comment on the DollyPartonMusic.net message board that I was told it was going to be the same with a different cover, a couple of people quickly corrected me and said it had new stuff, too, but I haven't seen it to verify that. (On the last tour, she just took the one from the tour before, changed maybe four pages inside out of 20 or 30 or whatever to add a few photos from the new CD, changed the front and back cover, and that was it – so that's probably what they did this time, too.)

Hey - just thought you and your readers would like to know that Dolly's Better Get To Livin' has been A listed on BBC Radio 2 - the largest radio station in the UK meaning that her song will get around 20 plays per week to an audience of over 12 million people! Good times!
Dominic Houlihan
Cardiff, Wales, U.K.
Thanks, Dominic. That's good to know. Maybe it'll get some airplay there and be a bigger hit than it was in the States!

Hey Duane! I was wondering if maybe you could help me with a project that I am working on. I work at the library in Princeton WV. We are having a Celebrate Princeton day on June 14th 2008. We are sponsoring a Dolly look alike contest to help raise money for the new library we hope to open soon! So far we've only had around 5 people to sign up to perform. So if you could maybe point me in the right direction or maybe post somewhere on your site that were looking for “Dollys” (Male or Female) to perform that would be wonderful. Thanks again for everything you do for all us Dolly Fans.

Well, I'll post your comments here, and hopefully some folks will be interested and get in touch with you!

Hi Duane, I am very excited about Dolly coming to Berkley on August 5th. Just so happened, pre-sale tickets went on sale same day I get paid. It was a bit of a challenge waiting for funds to load onto my debit card, but I finally bought 2 tickets. Going with my friend, Michael, who said he had not seen Dolly before and would love to. He has a digital camera, so hopefully we'll get some great pics so I can forward them to you. Would you know if anyone is opening for Dolly or if she is touring alone?
Scott Nassans
San Francisco, Calif.
Enjoy the show, Scott. Thus far on the tour, she has not had any opening acts, and none have been announced for any scheduled dates (although I'm told her London concerts this summer have Dolly and “special guests” on the tickets, which indicates she'll have an opening act there). Whether the no-opening-act habit continues into the fall leg of the tour when she's out your way, we'll have to wait and see. As for photos, though, you'll have to be careful. At all concerts on the tour so far, cameras have been prohibited, and security has been pretty strict.

Hi Duane I saw Jesus and Gravity on CMT this am right after the new video from Rascal Flats. I hope they will continue to show it and thanks for all that you do  in keeping everyone up to date on this site.

Thanks, Sam. It's great to know she's getting some airplay!

I attended Dolly's concert in Heshey and it was awesome.  I am hoping that some of the other fans that attended did get some photos and will share them with the site.  Security was very tight and I did have a camera;  but was to close to the front and didn't want to chance it.  Keep up the excellent work as this is the best website ever!!

Thanks, Jerry. Glad you enjoyed the show!

Hi Duane, Just wondering if Dolly has an opening act on the current tour. I'm eagerly anticipating her appearance at Radio City next week!
Sam
New York City, N.Y.
No, it's just Dolly thus far on the tour. For her past couple of tours, she's only had opening acts for a select limited number of concerts out of each entire tour, and I've not heard of any on the shows for this tour.

-------------------------------------------

April 25, 2008
I just have a curious question see if anyone knows, I see Dolly is wearing a little heart necklace a lot now, well the weekend she was at Dollywood. Does anyone know anything about it?
Nick
Prince George, Va.
Haven't heard of any special story behind it. Anyone else know?

-------------------------------------------

April 23, 2008
I was just wondering how Dolly gets to Dollywood, does she fly here by a plane or does she ride here?? Also how does she get around the park without anyone ever noticing??
Cody
Waynesville, N.C.
She drives, Cody. Dolly absolutely hates to fly, so she only does so when completely unavoidable (such as traveling out of the country or when she has to get to the West Coast or East Coast without enough time to drive the distance). So she goes just about everywhere on land – usually in her tour bus. At the park, she gets around without being noticed thanks to walkways, hallways and driveways that are located behind and between buildings or fences where the public can't see.

Thank you for such a great web site. I try to read it every time I'm on line. I was wondering if you think Dolly will do a concert in Detroit? I want to go so badly but can only go if it's in Detroit. I live 3 hours from Detroit and it's worth the drive. I've seen her twice at the Fox Theater and hope to see her as many times as I can. So if anyone knows about a possible show please let me know!!!! Thank you .
Kris Los
Clare, Mich.
Thanks, Kris. Unfortunately, they haven't given any indication of where she's going to be playing for the fall leg of the tour other than the two California dates they have on tap right now, so I don't know if she'll be in the Motor City or not. Supposedly, she's going to play many more cities total in the fall than she is in the spring, so hopefully she'll come to your area.

Hey Duane, First of all I would like to make a comment on the video you did. It was amazing, Thanks for that. And second of all I would like everyone know my feelings about Dollywood. I was there with friends I met on dollypartonmusic.net  and they were all great and it was my 1st time in Tennessee and I LOVE IT!! I can't wait for next year to come. I was in front row for the Mexico show – 1st time EVER being in front row, and being that close to Dolly was out of this world. I LOVED every second of being in Dollywood. So I thought I would pass on my thoughts of Dollywood for being my 1st time there and thanks again for the great job you do with the site and keeping us up to date on any Dolly news. Your site ROCKS!! Duane.x.
Amanda

Thanks so much, Amanda. Glad your first visit to the park was such a blast! Hope you're able to make it again soon.

As always, Thank You for keeping us “a breast” of the current Dolly news! Parton the Pun! LOL  Anyhoo! I am writing because I know so many people visit your site on a daily basis and I am hoping that someone can help me. I am looking for copies of two television specials that Dolly appeared in sometime in the '70s. I would really like to find “Carol and Dolly in Nashville" and “Cher-Special.” If anyone has either of these or both I would love to have copies of them and would be willing to pay for them. Keep up the good work, Duane!
Jimmy Ward
Peoria, Ill.
Unfortunately, Jimmy, those specials have not been released on DVD, so they're not commercially available. However, copies made by fans from old videotape recordings people made when the shows originally aired have floated around for years, so maybe someone will get in touch with you with a copy.

Hi Duane.  I have a quick question regarding the Meet and Greets.  Is it a contest to win a chance to meet with Dolly or will all the names submitted be honored?  Thanks!
Joshua Skidmore
New York, N.Y.
Unfortunately, Joshua, we don't know exactly how the Dolly-ite meet-and-greets will work because they began taking reservations last week without releasing the rules or procedures being used, although they have been promised to be “coming soon” since several days before the DollyPartonMusic.net reservations began. However, I can say with complete confidence it won't be everyone who submitted a request because you could end up with 1,000 people, and she only does small meet and greets of a few dozen before each concert. Rumor has it that the first 20 people to submit a reservation for each show are the ones who will get meet-and-greet passes, but that hasn't been confirmed, and even when they do get the rules posted, I wouldn't expect them to divulge details as exact as that.

I just have to thank you for your video! I have not been able to go to the opening in a few years and it was so nice of you to share so much. Thanks for taking the time to do that. It is much appreciated!
Greg
Avon, Ind.
Thanks, Greg. It did take a couple of hours to put together on my computer, and it was the first time I tried to create a video report like that, so I was pleased that it turned out so well. For those who haven't seen it, he's referring to a video report on the Dolly's appearances last weekend which is available here.

Thanks, Aaron. Photos from the weekend will continue to be posted for probably another entire week, maybe a few days longer! And be sure to check out the video report posted in tonight's update here!

I would love to see a concert here in Sydney! My sister in UK is going to see her over there an is bragging at every opportunity. Could you tell my if Dolly has every sung a classic Berlin, Gershwin, or Hammerstein composition. I  heard one on the radio, but missed the name of the song....could you help! Cheers
Kane
Sydney, Australia
Dolly said when she announced she would be doing a world tour that it would include Australia. Although her 2008-2009 Backwoods Barbie World Tour kicks off in a few days, none of the dates for late 2008 or into 2009 have been revealed yet, so we still have to wait and see if she makes it Down Under and, if so, whether Sydney will be included. As for the song, you're likely thinking of her cover of "I Get A Kick Out Of You" from a few years back.

Hi. Firstly I really love this site - I check it every day and must admit, it's the best source of info for Dolly fans on the web. Keep up the good work. I watched Dolly on AI and I loved her performance but I have a question about Smokey Mountain Memories .... has Dolly recorded a version called Smokey Mountain Memories or did AI bosses change it from her original Appalachian Memories? Can I be cheeky and also ask a second question? I've just bought my 30th Dolly compilation called The Best There Is and I noticed that the version of Do I Ever Cross Your Mind is edited differently from all my other versions? Is this the single version or the original album version from Heartbreak Express? Many thanks,
Dominic Houlihan
Cardiff, Wales, U.K.
Thanks, Dom. Dolly originally wrote and recorded the song in 1983 on Burlap & Satin as “Appalachian Memories,” changing its title on her subsequent three re-recordings of it (live versions in 1994 and 2004 and a studio version with guitarist Bryon Sutton in 2000) to “Smoky Mountain Memories” (the Smokies are the area of the Appalachian Mountains where she was born and raised). As for the other song, a remixed version was released on the 1987 collection The Best Of Dolly Vol. 3 and released as the B-side to the album's remix single of “We Had It All,” and I believe that's the one that appears on The Best There Is.

Duane, There is talk on the American Idol website's forum that Dolly was either ill (flu), but I know she hurt her back.  Did you ever find out what exactly was wrong?  Is it degenerate disc disease?  What are your thoughts about her performance?
Hillary
Stockton, Calif.
No one has said anything about what was actually wrong with her on Idol, Hillary, but there must have been something that caused her performance on the show to be below her normal level of excellence. She was full-voiced and energetic and absolutely fine just five days earlier for her other appearances in Los Angeles, so something must have happened between then and Wednesday night to make her sound so out-of-breath when she sang. I don't know what it was, maybe something as simple as a cold, but hopefully she'll be over it by the time of next week's Dollywood appearances. As for her back, she has said she just pulled a muscle in her lower back and that it had healed.

-------------------------------------------

April 5, 2008
I know Dolly is starting another tour. Could you tell me if she will be having a performance in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. If so I would love to be there. Thank you.
Betty Ann Munroe
Canso, Nova Scotia, Canada
Yes, Betty Ann, Dolly's 2008-2009 Backwoods Barbie World Tour kicks off later this month. She's doing the U.S. in spring, Europe in summer, and then returning to North America in the fall. She is expected to include Canadian dates for the autumn/winter leg of the tour, but only two cities (both in California – plus a benefit concert in Kentucky that's not technically part of the tour) have been announced at this time, so you'll have to wait to find out later whether she'll be returning to Halifax later in the year.

-------------------------------------------

April 5, 2008
Just wanted to know if anyone had a color picture or know where I can get one of Dolly's coat of many colors?  I wanted to do something in my Dolly room and need to find a color pic of her coat.  Thank you,
Brian
Bella Vista, Ark.
As far as I know, Brian, no photos of the actual coat exist other than Dolly's school picture from which the album cover of the same name was generated. You may find someone who has a photo they've taken of the replica coat that's on display at her Chasing Rainbows museum (from before they stopped allowing you to shoot pictures inside), so that would be your best bet.

-------------------------------------------

April 4, 2008
Firstly thank you for this fantastic site, I'm just wondering if there is any more info on when Dolly is going to tour Australia? We are getting itchy feet awaiting tour dates. When it happens I think we will faint .
Joshua
Melborune, Australia
Unfortunately, Josh, nothing has been announced yet, and no indications have been made of when something will be announced. We know she's doing the U.S. in spring, Europe in summer, and U.S. and Canada in fall/winter, but the tour is supposed to continue well into 2009, so perhaps she's planning to come Down Under next year. We'll just have to wait and see.

April 4, 2008
Hey there just watched A.I. tonight after work and I LOVED it. Dolly looked and sounded great.  I do believe the right person went home tonight, I do think she sang it a lot better tonight as she was leaving the show.  My question for you is what did Paula and Dolly work together on?  I never knew they did anything together.  Thanks for the great job on here and talk to you later  :)
Brian Wolf
Bella Vista, Ark.
Before becoming a successful singer, Paula was a sought-after choreographer, and she choreographed the dancers in the scene where Dolly films a music video at the start of A Smoky Mountain Christmas. She even appears briefly in the scene as the choreographer speaking to one of the dancers in the background.

Thanks, Mark. Glad to do it!

April 3, 2008
I was so happy that Dolly was finally on A.I. I have been writing the show for about 4 seasons now.  There were a few that I don't really think did that great of a job. The 5 that really stand out to me were  Carly Smithson, love how it was a slower song and her voice is great, Syesha Mercado, great voice as well but like Randy said she couldn't compare to Whitney, David Cook loved the rock/blues spin he put on the song, Michael Johns loved the song and it didn't even sound like the same song.  But for me my favorite of the night would have to be David Archuleta, I saw him with the try outs and right then and there I knew I was voting for him every week and I have.  He is AWSOME and what a voice he has.  He will go far and I will be 1st in line to get his CD.
Brian Wolf
Bella Vista, Ark.
Thanks, Brian. I agree, little David gave by far the best performance of the night.

Hello! We have a subscription of a yearbook that has news from inside and outside of Sweden,  and we received the book of 2007 yesterday and Dolly's  3 concerts in Sweden are in it and a little cute picture too... So Dolly's visit in Sweden last year left a deep impression :-)( and my writing is baaaad!!)
Magdalena

Thanks for sharing, Magdalena. Glad to know her Swedish fans are keeping up with her!

March 1, 2008
I got my copy of the CD the day it came out at Wal Mart and I LOVE it.  I have listened to it a millions times already LOL.  The only thing I was upset with was it wasn't marked “Edited” at Wal-Mart.  If you or anyone else got the CD at Target or Best Buy can you tell me if there is a beep in the song “Shiola” really close to the end of the song.  I think she is saying Sh out of luck, and all I hear is BEEEEEEEEP out of luck.  I'm not 12 I want to hear the bad words  LOL.  I work for Wal-Mart and I know we only carry the edited versions of CDs but they are marked on the price tag.
Brian
Bella Vista, Ark.
No, Brian, you don't really have an “edited” version. She bleeped out the word in all editions of the CD, so they're all the same. Although Dolly often curses lightly in interviews, throwing a “shit” or “damn” around here and there, she pretty much never uses profanity in her songs, so my guess is this was her way of saying “shit out of luck” but not really saying it in the song to be funny.

-------------------------------------------

Feb. 23, 2008
I just wanted to know who if anyone we could write to in regards to the CDs that they have coming out of Dolly's older music.  I really don't need Coat of Many Colors and Jolene on CD again.  Right now I think I have 3 of Coat of Many Colors and 2 of Jolene.  There are many older albums to but out on CD that have not made it out yet.  That even goes with her and Porter as well.  Please help and others PLEASE write as well :)
Brian
Bella Vista, Ark.
SonyBMG's Legacy Recordings imprint, which is supposed to be in charge of most of its re-issues and is the label behind the upcoming X2 re-issue of Jolene and Coat Of Many Colors, used to accept online suggestions for upcoming releases but no longer seems to do so. The label has done better recently, putting out in recent weeks three albums with Porter Wagoner on CD for the first time ever, albeit through its “special products” imprint rather than the standard re-issue Legacy. You may still e-mail SonyBMG here, though.

I love Dolly Parton. Now more than ever!!!!! For her birthday, I sent her a notebook. It was blue with a big butterfly on it, and “Dreamer” written under it. I saw it and said to myself “This is perfect for her!” So I mailed it off. Yesterday, I got the most awesome thing ever in the mail!!!!! It said Dear Michelle, Thank you so much for my Dreamer Notebook. I will use it to write my dreams in as I have a new dream every day. May all your dreams come true. Love, Dolly” SO I adore Miss Dolly!!!!! And I wanna say to the people reading this, if you are one of the many people I bugged about “Do you think she'll like it???”; I am dearly sorry for bugging you to death!
Michelle

Thanks for sharing, Michelle!

Feb. 18, 2008
Hi Duane,  Glad to see Dolly will be back on tour middle of April 2008. Do you think she will be at Dollywood for her parade? My friend Tammie and I are all set to come this year to see her. I suppose if she still has her back problem the parade will carry on without her, although that would be disappointing in a way. We want her fit for the UK O2 London in July as thanks to you and DollyPartonmusic.net I got good seats for both dates so that's great. Hope you are settling in your new job and city okay. Keep up the good work. Any chance of meeting you at Dollywood? Thanks again
Sylvia Smith
England
Certainly, Sylvia. Be sure to look for me at Dollywood, because I plan to be there and always enjoy meeting the site's readers. And, yes, as was reported on the news page a few days ago, the park's spokesman says Dolly is still supposed to be there April 11 and 12 for this year's opening festivities. Her doctor's orders were to rest six-to-eight weeks, reportedly, and eight weeks from the announcement would be April 7, so hopefully she'll be "good as new" by the following weekend.

-------------------------------------------

Feb. 15, 2008
Duane: I see on the tour page that the Roxy is “status unknown.” DO YOU KNOW ???
Mike
Hesperia, Calif.
Unfortunately, no, I don't know, which is why it says “status unknown.” Since it wasn't part of the "real" tour, they haven't officially announced yet whether her appearance at the party has been cancelled. However, it is being held during the period for which her doctors have ordered her to rest and not perform, which suggests it is supposed to be in the cancellations. Her other tour dates have been rescheduled beginning in late April, which is a month after this concert was to have taken place. The radio station hosting the event, though, is still promoting it on its website, so maybe it's still on at this point.

-------------------------------------------

Feb. 13, 2008
Oh please Dolly, get well soon! I was so worried yesterday when I read about Dolly's back problems. Duane, how serious do you think this is? I'd like to think that she'll be “just as new” in a few weeks but at the same time Dolly is probably the kind of person who would not hear of resting if it was not something serious happening to her...I just hope she has professional doctors there to help her, doctors that forbid her to start a tour or anything like that if she's not fully recovered! My thoughts go to Dolly...please take care of yourself and get well soon!
Filip
Linköping, Sweden
Well, Filip, if she just has to rest for a few weeks, hopefully it's not too serious,

Hey Duane!  First of all, Thanks again for maintaining, by far, the best Dolly website online! Secondly, I am trying to locate a copy of the song “Blackie, Kentucky.” If anyone out there can help me it would be greatly appreciated! I know that it appeared on the “Love is Like a Butterfly” album...I would love a copy if anyone can help!  Thanks and keep up the good work!
Jimmy
Peoria, Ill.
Thanks, Jimmy. Hopefully someone can help you.

I live in Oklahoma but I am wanting to attend Dolly's concert in Dallas on March 15. I noticed that the tickets are “pre-sold” on Thursday before they go on sale on Friday. What exactly to I have to do in order to get these tickets during the pre-sale? I would really love to be sitting as close as possible so I know I need to order the tickets on Thursday!!!! Can you please help me find out how to accomplish this????? Thank you very much,
Elizabeth
Olustee, Okla.
The pre-sale is for members of her Dolly-ites fan club. You may join on her official music website, DollyPartonMusic.net, for $25. They give you a code you enter on the Ticketmaster website to be able to purchase tickets in the pre-sale. However, I've been told by those who have taken part in the sales that very, very few tickets  close to the stage (and in most instances, almost no tickets close to the stage, if any) appeared to have been made available to fan club members in the pre-sale, so whether you'd get closer tickets that day in the pre-sale or waiting until the morning they go on sale to the general public is really anyone's guess. Some venues also use the “premium” ticketing option, where they hold most of the tickets on the first few rows to sell in packages that cost a couple hundred dollars each rather than sell them in the pre-sale or at regular prices.

I'm Melissa and I'm a Dolly fan. I have a lot of Dolly merchandise and I'm going to see her in concert on June the 27th in Glasgow at the SECC. We got seats near the front! IM SOO EXCITED. I think that Dolly is talented.

Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm, Mel!

Jan. 15, 2007
Can you help to clear this out? Is the Denmark concert in Viborg, Viborg Stadium, or Odense, Fiona Park?? My ticket says Viborg but DollyPartonmusic.net says Odense....I have asked them but get no real reply!
Magdalena
Gusum, Sweden
Your tickets should be correct, Magdalena. According to the official ticket seller, the concert is at Viborg Stadium, and that is what has been accurately listed here on Dollymania since the concert announcement was first made more than a month ago. The Odense listing appears to be another error on the DollyPartonMusic.net tour itinerary.

Jan. 15, 2007
Is anyone aware of an official "fan club" for Dolly besides the "Dollyites" that is offered on her official website? Where you might be able to obtain Meet & Greet schedules/offers for her tour dates? Thanks.
Janette
Becker, Minn.
No, Janette, there is no other fan club, just the Dolly-ites on her official music website DollyPartonMusic.net. Unfortunately, as we approach three months since the launch of the fan club, it has revealed no details yet on how members will be able to make meet-and-greet reservations or at which concerts they will be available.

-------------------------------------------

Jan. 14, 2007
THANK YOU! I joined Dolly's website, but your site will always be my #1! Your site will always be my first web visit. The love is here and I just don't feel it at other websites.
Kent

Thanks, Kent. That's appreciated. Glad to share a bit of love with everyone! (although I'm sure it exists elsewhere, too!)

Jan. 14, 2007
Hello Duane, I hope you are all settled in at your new location. I see the tour info is stating Dolly as coming to The Hershey Center on March 4, 2008. There is no such venue in Hershey. Do you think it is The Giant Center or the Hershey Theater? Thanks for your help and for a great site.
Scott Ellison
Myerstown, Pa.
Thanks for alerting me to that, Scott. Unfortunately, I don't know the answer. Both venues presently have nothing posted for their schedules on March 4, so it could be either. Dolly's official music website, DollyPartonMusic.net, lists the show as Hershey Center, so if what you are telling me is correct, it's an error on their site.
Ed. Note: After the posting of this letter, tour website Pollstar added the concert with what appears to be the correct location: Giant Center. However, DollyPartonMusic.net continued to show the incorrect venue.

Jan. 8, 2007
Hi Duane! I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU for the info on the benefit concert in Kentucky in Oct. I was able to reserve my meet and greet tickets already!! I'm soo excited!! Guess I'll be working a lot of overtime now, but it will be worth every bit of it! Glad you got moved and are back with us. I feel lost without your daily updates! Thanks again for the info and for the greatest Dolly site on the web!!

Thanks, Diane. You're too kind. I'm glad you were able to get the meet-and-greet tickets!

Hi Duane, I am so so excited!!! Dolly is in (as you know) the UK today and she had two television interviews this morning - in one she mentioned she would be touring in Ireland next year!!! I am so so excited - I thought she might just tour Mainland UK this time!!!!! Any ideas of when tickets might go on sale?!!! I would also like to thank you very much for this site - it is without a doubt the BEST. Thank you so much for all your work keeping us up to date with Dolly’s information.
Charlene Ritchie
Northern Ireland, U.K.
Thanks, Charlene. Word hasn’t come yet on when the Irish dates will go on sale, but as the other U.K. shows are already available, I would expect them to be announced and placed on sale quite soon.

Hey Duane just thought I would share me good news with everyone. I am going to see Dolly twice in concert at Glasgow (Scotland) first on the Friday 27th June and again on 29th of June. On the first night I am 28 rows from the front and on the second night I am 8 rows from the front, A big thanks to my friends on the dollypartonmusic.net message board who emailed me on Saturday to let me know they were on sale. And a big thanks to you too for this AMAZING site. It’s my first stop when i log on the net keep up the good work and many thanks.x.

Dec. 3, 2007
I finally made it to Dollywood! Loved It! I am 35 and have been a fan since I was five. Internet is a wonderful thing. I appreciate all the work you put into this website. It is the most informative. Dollypartonmusic.net isn’t as good. I finally made a concert in 05, that was a trip. I got a speeding ticket and all. I was amazed to see the different age groups that are fans. Most of all I gained a different respect for her as a performer. I would give anything to meet her but making that concert and Dollywood made it ok if I don’t. Thanks again!
April King
Port Allen, La.
Thanks for your kind words, April. So glad you finally got to see Dolly’s little paradise in the Smokies! In my opinion, it’s the real “happiest place on earth!”

Dec. 1, 2007
Hi Duane!- My brother and I were so fortunate to get to meet Dolly last Monday.. (He is Michael, I know he has corresponded with you before)!!!!! It was unbelievable. She was so sweet, gracious, and patient with us her adoring (and hysterical) fans! We will try to send some photos, also (as you probably saw online) Dolly signed my back. I did indeed get the tattoo and it looks awesome! Chad Stewart of Asheville did my work, is looks just like marker! Now I can take Dolly with me everywhere. We will try to send you some of the photos. Again, Thanks!!!! for all the fabulous work you do here in honor of Dolly. Love,
Meredith Anne Manning
Asheville, N.C.
Thanks, Meredith. That is just about the coolest Dolly meeting I think I’ve seen :) Michael actually sent in some photos the other day that I finally got around to posting on the site. They’re available here!

Nov. 17, 2007
Duane!!! I get to meet Dolly on Monday! AAAAAH! I just found out, so this will also serve as a news-sharing letter. She’s apparently coming Monday morning to be on 99.9 Kiss Country, WKSF, which is the major country radio station for Asheville, NC. They are giving away tickets to meet her, and my mom won two of them for my sister and me! I am so excited. I can’t believe it. I cried and screamed and rolled around in the floor when I found out. I’m in shock. Anyway, hope things are good with you, and thanks so much for everything.
Michael
Asheville, N.C.
Great news, Michael! Congratulations, and thanks for letting us know!

Nov. 17, 2007
First off thank you for Dollymania. Dolly’s management team is doing a great job showing everyone what we as Dolly fans already know. She is a megastar with talent who works her butt off. How lucky are we as fans to have a theme park, a water park, movies, plays, concerts, parades, books, and T.V. shows and more !!! Thank you Dolly Parton, you’re the best.
Mike
Hesperia, Calif.
Thanks for sharing, Mike.

Nov. 13, 2007
I was wondering if you know when they will show Dolly’s new episode on Hannah Montana? I haven’t heard a word about it. Also, rumor is the premiere of “Better” video will air on November 16 - do you know if this is true? Thanks for a great website - I love it.
Crystal
Calhoun, Ga.
No, there's still no word on when her second guest spot on Hannah will air. Disney is still showing on average just one new episode each month. They've only released the schedule through Nov. 26, and it's not on there yet. The last new episode premiered on Friday of last week, and there aren't any more new ones airing through Nov. 26, so my guess is the next new one won't come on until sometime in December. Also, no official word yet on the video. Dolly said in an interview a week ago that she thought it's supposed to premiere on CMT on Friday, but she sounded unsure. CMT hasn't officially announced the airing yet to my knowledge, so it may not actually happen on that day.

Thank you very much for allowing others to see the funeral of our beloved Porter Wagoner. What precious memories this stirred in my mind as I heard some of his songs from long ago and comments about his faith and heavenly father was so emotional. This was the first time I heard the song Drifting Too Far From Shore with he and Dolly.. Is this a new song or one recorded long ago that I never heard. Once again, thanks for the blessing of seeing this legend’s funeral and memory.

I was glad to pass along the links and information, Joe. Yes, the song is a new one. They recorded it about a year ago, and it was first released in August on Porter's Best of Grand Old Gospel 2008 double CD.

It’s sad to hear of Porter’s passing. The legends of country music are falling. I remember watching “The Porter Wagoner Show” as a child. That was where I was introduced to the legendary Dolly. The music Porter and Dolly made was pure country. Still some of the best duets around. I’m glad Dolly and Porter were afforded the chance to put the past behind them. Some people never get that chance. I’m sure he’s in heaven singing with the angel band and trying to recruit Patsy Cline to sing for his band ‘til Dolly gets there!

He surely will be missed, Tim.

Duane, Thank You for having Channel 5’s website available.. That was the only way of viewing Porter’s funeral... It was very sad, but sweet...I loved the ending when Dolly lead them with singing “I saw the Light.” We will all miss him and love him..

Thanks, Sharon, but all I did was look up the link and post it :)

Hi Duane, I would like to buy a copy of Porter’s funeral. Do you know where I could get a copy? Thanks,
Greg Brookshire

Well, Greg, it was aired on television in Nashville, so it’s likely several folks there recorded it. Maybe one of them will e-mail you with an offer to make a copy.

WOW! To hear Dolly on 105.1 F.M. here in southern California made my day. I couldn’t even sing along.

Hopefully they’ll play it much more so that the song will return to the charts!

Hi Duane, I read in the newspaper Tuesday morning about Porter passing away. I just wanted to offer my condolences to his family, friends and his friends from the music business. Dolly has mentioned that although it was a bumpy road when she was on his show for those 7 years, she will always be grateful to Porter for giving her her first real big break in her music career. I know all of us Dolly fans are grateful to him as well. I was thinking of that duet of Porter and Dolly’s “Last Thing On My Mind” and Dolly’s “I Will Always Love You” - one of all-time favorite songs of Dolly’s. We have had many of our country legends go on to Hillbilly Heaven, still I don’t want to be selfish by saying that I hope we still have many years of Dolly and others to enjoy.

Thanks, Scott, for sharing your thoughts on Porter. His services will be broadcast live on WSM radio (available online here) on Thursday.

I was so sad to hear that Porter Wagoner died this week. There has been no media coverage here in England and I had been on holiday so only heard today through this site. I am praying for him and his family throughout this time and it's so nice to hear so many country artists as well as Dolly have shown remembrance for him!

Hi Duane, It was so sad to hear about Porter’s passing. We just got back from Dollywood today, and I’m sure you’ve probably heard this by now, but they released a statement from Dolly on XM radio 10 that she spent the final few hours with him and his family and sang to him and prayed. They are also having a special show celebrating his life on that channel, starting tomorrow morning for anybody who has XM radio.

Thanks for letting me know, Diane. It was a shock to learn of Porter’s death Sunday night. Country music has lost one of its greatest innovators. He was more than just a country performer -- Porter Wagoner was country music.
